RPA is Transforming the World of Business both - in Italy and Internationally

Robotic process automation (RPA) is revolutionizing business processes at every level today, and companies are embracing new technologies designed to automate mundane, repetitive tasks. In Italy, too, the adoption of RPA and other automation technologies has been growing in the last few years and is expected to grow even further.

What Is RPA?

RPA is a form of business process automation that allows anyone to define a set of instructions for a robot or “bot” to perform. RPA bots are capable of mimicking most human-computer interactions to carry out a ton of error-free tasks at high volume and speed. This automation technology is better equipped to perform no-brainer tasks like data input exponentially faster and more efficiently than humans, leaving humans to do higher-value work that requires creativity, planning, and decision-making.

When RPA is combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) or Intelligent Automation (IA), rules-based decision-making tasks can be incorporated, making the process more efficient and productive.

Automation can enhance the bottom line of almost any business, but nearly 80% of RPA spend can be attributed to banking, financial services and insurance, health care, retail and CPG, and telecom and media.

The Adoption of RPA in Italy and the Rest of the World

According to a Gartner report, the global RPA software market grew 38.9% in 2020 and held its position as the fastest-growing segment in the enterprise software market. Gartner predicts that 90% of large organizations globally will have adopted RPA by 2022 as they look to digitally empower critical business processes through resilience and scalability, while recalibrating human labor and manual effort. Despite economic pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the RPA market is still expected to grow at double-digit rates through 2024.

Italian companies also show a marked interest in the adoption of automation technologies. According to a Deloitte report, 4 Italian companies out of 10 (39%) have already undertaken the automation path. Of these, 55%, compared to 47% globally, include RPA technologies in their business processes, while another 25% plan to do so by the end of 2022.

As automation technologies continue to improve, the range of applications are growing, and it looks like businesses at the forefront of technology worldwide are ready to adopt, adapt, and reap all the benefits.
